Sassoon [1886 1967] is known as a poet of the First World War, describing the horrors of trench warfare and discontent of soldiers. He also wrote a three volume fictionalized autobiography, of which this is the first. Originally published in 1928 by Faber and Faber, this copy is the first edition published in America with illustrations. It was, however, printed in Britain at the Chiswick Press London. Sassoon
